PETALING JAYA:
Malaysia’s men’s doubles pair Goh Sze-Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani were eliminated from the Li-Ning China Masters after a closely-fought match in the quarter-finals today.

They were the third Malaysian pair to be eliminated at the quarter-finals, after Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Pearly Tan-M Thinaah were sent packing earlier today.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin, ranked world No 8, were defeated by Indonesia’s Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Mob Reza Pahlevi Isfahani 18-21, 21-19, 23-21 in 64 minutes.

The Indonesians, who are ranked world No 13, will face China’s second seeds Ren Xiang Yu-He Ji Ting, who earlier defeated Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair Aaron-Wooi Yik.

However, Sze Fei-Izzuddin have already booked their place in the World Tour Finals in Hangzhou, China, next month.

The WTF is highly coveted, offering US$210,000 (RM937,500) for the doubles winners in all three categories and also substantial points for the final ranking.

Malaysia’s men’s singles player Lee Zii Jia, mixed doubles pairs Cheng Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai, as well as women’s doubles shuttlers Pearly-Thinaah have also secured their spots in the WTF.
