PETALING JAYA: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation has confirmed the discovery of a whale carcass near the Triso bridge, following a video of the remains going viral on social media.
The corporation said that preliminary assessments revealed that the carcass is in an advanced state of decomposition and is on the verge of disintegration.
“It is currently stuck on a bar and can only be retrieved during high tide,” it said in a statement.
SFC said the whale is estimated to be an adult of the baleen species, measuring about 10m in length with a tail fluke of around 2.8 meters and around 50 throat grooves.
“SFC’s veterinary and forensics teams, in collaboration with the state museum department, will collect the bones tomorrow for further analysis.”
