‘Abang Adik’ wins best film award in Los Angeles

The Malaysian movie's lead performer was also named best actor at the Asian World Film Festival held in the US.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Malaysian film “Abang Adik” won the award for best film at the Asian World Film Festival in Los Angeles today.

The film’s Taiwanese lead actor, Wu Kang-ren, who delivered a standout performance as Abang, was named the best actor.

Finas, the national film development corporation, said “Abang Adik”, the debut feature by director Jin Ong, had clinched 19 international awards, highlighting the ability of Malaysian films to compete and excel on the global stage.

The film was named the best film at the New York Asian film festival and won several honours at the Far East film festival in Udine, Italy.

“Abang Adik” achieved remarkable success in China, earning RM2.2 million at the box office a week after its release.

The film further amassed RM14.6 million in Taiwan and RM1.55 million in Hong Kong, establishing itself as the first Malaysian film to achieve record-breaking box office figures across these markets.
