PETALING JAYA:
The National Defence University (UPNM) student who assaulted a junior by stomping on him is expected to be charged tomorrow.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa said the charge would be brought under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

“The investigation paper was referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers, and an order was issued to charge the suspect under Section 323 at the court in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow morning,” he said in a statement.

Rusdi also said the police had recorded statements from 16 people in relation to the investigation.

He was previously reported as saying that the incident occurred on Oct 21 at 10.45pm when the 19-year-old victim was near a field after a roll call.

He reportedly suffered cracks to his ribs and spine as a result of being stomped on by the suspect, who is in his third year at the university.

A police report on the incident was only lodged on Nov 8.

This is the second reported case of assault involving UPNM cadets in October.

On Nov 8, Amirul Iskandar Norhanizan, 22, claimed trial to assaulting Salman Saiful Surash, 20, by placing a hot iron on his chest at the UPNM hostel on Oct 22.
