Cowherd jailed 2 months for breaking into Johor sultan’s residence

BATU PAHAT:
A cattle and goat herder was sentenced to two months’ jail by the magistrates’ court here today after pleading guilty to breaking into the residence of the Sultan of Johor and damaging the lock of a door there two months ago.

Magistrate Suhaila Shafi’uddin meted out the sentence on Qamarulazim Samad, 20, and ordered him to serve the prison term from the date of his arrest on Sept 24.

Qamarulazim was accused of breaking into the sultan’s residence, which was used as a storage for valuables, and committing mischief by damaging the door’s lock between 11pm on Sept 23 and 9.30am on Sept 24.

The offence occurred at the residence located at Jalan Kluang, Batu Pahat.

The charge was framed under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 14 years’ jail. For repeat offenders, the court may also impose a fine or whipping upon conviction.
