JOHOR BAHRU:
Police arrested six men believed to have been involved in the high-speed car chase spanning 180km from Muar, Johor, to Kuala Lumpur early yesterday morning.

Johor police chief M Kumar said the suspects, aged between 25 and 35, were apprehended in Damansara at about 7am today.

Kumar said a four-wheel drive vehicle ran a red light at Jalan Bakri in Muar at about 2.45am after police tried to stop it for an inspection.

“The chase continued as the suspects’ vehicle exited the Jasin toll plaza by ramming the toll barrier and proceeded until they exited at the Sungai Besi toll.

“Upon reaching Jalan Chan Sow Lin, the suspects’ car crashed through the road barrier,” he told a press conference after an event at the Johor police headquarters here today.

Muar police chief Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz had said yesterday the suspects escaped after driving their vehicle up a ridge that was inaccessible to police before going in the opposite direction at Jalan Chan Sow Lin.

Kumar said an investigation is under way to determine the number of people in the car at the time and why they fled the police.

“We are also investigating whether they have any criminal record,” he said.

Johor police prepare for floods

Kumar said 2,467 police officers and personnel have been deployed across Johor in preparation for floods.

He also said 357 assets, including boats, four-wheel drive vehicles and trucks, were on standby for deployment to flood-affected areas.

He said Johor police have conducted several coordination meetings to ensure effective disaster management in collaboration with various agencies, including the fire and rescue department, the health ministry, and Rela volunteers.

The police are well-prepared for floods, he added, having been involved in relief work in hotspots such as Kota Tinggi, Batu Pahat and Pontian.
