Woman pleads guilty to supporting Daesh, possessing terrorism materials

A housewife pleaded guilty in the Kuala Lumpur High Court today to two counts of supporting and possessing materials linked to the Daesh (Islamic State) terrorist group.

Irma Julyanti Buang, 39, entered her plea after the charges were read to her by a court interpreter before Justice K Muniandy.

The court then fixed Dec 19 for case mention, Bernama reported.

Irma Julyanti was accused of supporting the terrorist group using Facebook, under the name “Bunga Dahlia”, and TikTok, under the name “bungadahlia111”, at the Batu Muda police detention centre in Kuala Lumpur at 10.28am on June 28.

The charges, framed under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code, carry a maximum prison sentence of 40 years or a fine and the forfeiture of any property used, or intended to be used, in committing the offence, upon conviction.

The woman was also charged with possessing materials related to the terrorist group on her mobile phone and laptop at a house in Felda Moakil, Labis, at 7.10am on June 23.

The charge was framed under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum sentence of seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, and confiscation of property used or intended for the offence, if found guilty.

Lawyer Azfar Asadullah Abdul Sathar acted for the accused while deputy public prosecutor Maryam Jamielah Ab Manaff appeared for the prosecution.
