Deputy home minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the new identity cards are designed with enhanced safety features and in alignment with the latest technological security advancements.
“The issuance of this new identity card aims to prevent attempts to counterfeit and misuse identity cards, which is a crucial document for Malaysians,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was replying to Manndzri Nasib (BN-Tenggara) who had asked for an update on the identity card the government plans to introduce to replace the existing version.
Shamsul said the next-generation identity card is made from a polycarbonate material and has a high-capacity security chip with enhanced encryption and security standards to combat forgery and data breaches.
“The next-generation identity card’s design will feature a more modern look, incorporating advanced laser engraving and holographic elements,” he said.
Shamsul said his ministry is also conducting a market study through the department to ensure the new identity card’s implementation avoids burdening the government with production costs and ensures resources are used efficiently.
