PETALING JAYA:
Police are tracking down a driver of a Toyota Hilux that led authorities on a 180km car chase from Muar, Johor to Kuala Lumpur before giving the men-in-blue the slip, earlier today.

In a statement, Muar police chief Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said police had ordered for the driver to pull over after the suspect ran the red light at a junction on Jalan Bakri, Muar in the wee hours of the morning.

However, the driver sped off, prompting a high-speed car chase that later involved police from Melaka, Bukit Aman and Kuala Lumpur.

“However, the suspect escaped after driving the four-wheel drive vehicle up a ridge which was inaccessible to police before going in the opposite direction at Jalan Chan Sow Lin,” Raiz said in a statement.

He added that efforts to track the suspect’s vehicle are ongoing and that an investigation paper has been opened.

Raiz said the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstruction and Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.

He also appealed for those with information on the incident and the vehicle to come forward.
