5-year driving licence ban for teen who crashed into cop

PETALING JAYA:
A 17-year-old boy who crashed his motorcycle into a traffic police officer’s bike while riding against the flow of traffic has been barred by the Seremban traffic magistrates’ court from holding a driving licence for five years.

Magistrate Nurul Azuin Talhah handed down the sentence after the teenager pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He was also ordered to serve a good behaviour bond for a year with a RM1,000 deposit, Utusan Malaysia reported.

According to the charge sheet, the incident took place at 2am on July 28 at Km36 on the Kajang-Seremban Highway.

The police officer involved in the crash sustained severe injuries.

Deputy public prosecutor M Pusppa prosecuted while the accused, who cannot be named as he is a minor, was unrepresented.
