Guan Eng’s corruption trial adjourned to February as witness down with fever

The prosecution says it will produce Zarul Ahmad Zulkifli's medical certificate when the trial resumes on Feb 27 and 28, 2025.

Lim Guan Eng’s undersea tunnel project corruption trial at the sessions court has been adjourned to February next year after the star prosecution witness came down with a fever overnight.

Deputy public prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumaat told Judge Azura Alwi that the prosecution was informed former Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd director Zarul Ahmad Zulkifli is on medical leave this morning.

“We will produce his medical certificate at the next hearing dates on Feb 27 and 28,” he added.

The court also fixed further hearing dates between April 14 and Nov 13, 2025.

Lim is represented by lawyers RSN Rayer and Asyraaf Abu Bakar Hamzah.

He is standing trial on charges of using his position as then Penang chief minister to ask Zarul for a 10% cut of the profits from the undersea tunnel project and accepting RM3.3 million in kickbacks from the businessman.

He is also accused of two counts of dishonestly misappropriating RM208.7 million worth of state land to two companies.
