Azriyn-Wee Kiong continue fine run, enter semis in Japan Masters

The Malaysian pair who knocked out compatriots Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani yesterday, defeated Taiwan’s Chiu Hsiang Chieh-Wang Chi Lin 21-19, 21-19.

PETALING JAYA:
Malaysian men’s doubles shuttlers Nur Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong continued their fine run at the Kumamoto Masters in Japan when they smashed their way into the semi-final by defeating Taiwanese pair Chiu Hsiang Chieh-Wang Chi Lin 21-19, 21-19.

The world No 40 ranked Malaysians, who defeated their much higher ranked countrymen Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani in the second round yesterday, took 42 minutes to down the unranked Taiwanese pair.

It will be the first semi-final appearance for Azriyn-Wee Kiong in a World Tour Super 500 event.

They will meet Japan’s world No 9 pair Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi tomorrow. It will be their first ever meeting so far.

The duo is the only men’s doubles pair left in the championship after Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik were also bundled out in the second round yesterday.
