KUALA LUMPUR:
A Sabah NGO has lodged a police report against a former CEO of a state GLC for allegedly slandering chief minister Hajiji Noor.

Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia chairman Zulkarnain Mahdar claimed that the senior official, through his accusations, had alluded that Hajiji was a corrupt leader who helped secure projects for contractors.

He said the allegation was made in a video uploaded to YouTube recently.

“The accusation that (Hajiji) pressured the CEO into awarding contracts is slanderous. Anyone can make such claims, but they must provide evidence.

“If it’s about bid notes, those notes have no value, even though he is the chief minister,” he told reporters after lodging a report on behalf of the NGO, also known as G57, at the Sri Petaling police station here today.

Zulkarnian said some contractors had complained about attempting to lobby using the bid notes, but discovered it was useless.

“It’s just a supporting note, not an order,” he said.

Zulkarnain also filed another police report regarding a social media post that alleged a conspiracy between the former CEO and another man with a “Datuk” title to deceive the state GLC’s board of directors to secure projects.

He said he would file another report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission tomorrow.

On Tuesday, Hajiji said he had nothing to hide in the alleged case of assemblymen from the state discussing bribes for a project licence.

He said the state government will assist MACC’s investigation into the allegation.

Previously, the individual sought MACC’s assurance that he would not be investigated before providing evidence to the agency.

However, MACC chief Azam Baki said MACC rejected this request as they could not provide a written guarantee of immunity without detailed information about the alleged improper conduct.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had also said the whistleblower cannot expect protection if he was involved in corruption.
