KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat observed a moment of silence in remembrance of former finance minister Daim Zainuddin, who died this morning.
Speaker Johari Abdul expressed his condolences to Daim’s family at the resumption of the sitting this afternoon.
Johari said Daim served as a senator from 1980 to 1982 and as the MP for Kuala Muda and Merbok from 1982 until 2003.
“I call upon all Muslim MPs to recite the Al-Fatihah for the late Daim, and for those of other faiths, I ask to observe a moment of silence,” he said.
Daim died at 8.21am at Assunta Hospital in Petaling Jaya. He was 86.
Funeral prayers are expected to be held at about 5pm at the Federal Territory Mosque in Kuala Lumpur.
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and several other political leaders visited Daim’s residence in Bukit Tunku to pay their last respects.
