PETALING JAYA:
A Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) contract worker died after he was believed to have been hit by a drunk driver at Masjid Tanah in Alor Gajah, Melaka, on Monday night.

Syairazi Rahmat was on his way home from work when the incident happened on Jalan Jeram at about 8.50pm, according to Sinar Harian.

Syairazi, 24, who was riding a motorcycle, died at the scene from severe head injuries.

Alor Gajah police chief Ashari Abu Samah said an initial investigation found that a car driven by a 34-year-old man entered Syairazi’s lane from the opposite direction and hit him.

“The victim was thrown off his motorcycle and later confirmed dead,” he said in a statement.

The driver of the car, who also suffered head injuries, was taken to Alor Gajah Hospital for treatment.

Ashari said the investigation found that the driver, who is unemployed, was believed to be drunk.

His blood sample has been sent to the Melaka chemistry department for verification of alcohol and drug content.
