Cop, Pahang royal among 5 charged with assaulting man

The accused pleaded not guilty to injuring a road maintenance worker in June at a horse stable in Kuantan.

Five men, including a policeman and a member of the Pahang royalty, pleaded not guilty in the magistrates’ court here today to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous means to a road maintenance worker.

Policeman Fouzi Md Nur, 44, cattle rearers Nik Norhisham Affendi Nik Zani, 39, and Khairul Azhar Rosli, 38, contract worker Taufik Daud, 32, and Tengku Eddie Akasya Tengku Abd Rahman, 20, were jointly charged with hurting Alias Awang, 44, with a knife.

The incident is alleged to have taken place at a horse stable on Jalan Teluk Sisek here at about 12.20am on June 6, resulting in injuries to Alias’s right thigh.

The charge, framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34, carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison, a fine, whipping or any combination of these if convicted.

Magistrate Raja Norshuzianna Shakila Raja Mamat set bail at RM7,000 with one surety each for the accused, ordering them to report to the police station monthly and not to intimidate the victim while the case is ongoing.

She also set Dec 11 for the next case mention.

The prosecution was handled by Pahang prosecution director Shahrizat Ismail, assisted by deputy public prosecutors Noor Aishah Mohd Amin and B Deevagaran Naidu.

The accused were represented by lawyers Y Sheelan Samuagam, K Santhra, Tee Yuan Sheng and K Theivaendran. Badrulzzaman Abu Bakar appeared for Fouzi.

It was previously reported that a road construction worker was injured, allegedly after being attacked by a group of individuals, including a member of the Pahang royal family.

Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah later ordered the police to carry out a prompt, transparent and fair probe into the matter.
