UPNM bullying case probe will be completed by Friday, says Khaled

The defence minister says the investigation board’s findings will be finalised by then.

Defence minister Khaled Nordin said the police have already submitted their report on the case to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
SHAH ALAM:
The probe into the recent bullying case at the National Defence University (UPNM) will be completed by Friday, says defence minister Khaled Nordin.

“As reported in the media, the police have sent their report to the Attorney-General’s Chambers. The investigation board’s (findings) will be finalised this Friday,” he said in a press conference today.

A senior cadet had allegedly pressed a hot iron against the chest of a junior cadet at the UPNM hostel in Sungai Besi at around 11.45pm on Oct 22.

According to Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain, the 20-year-old victim had been asked by the 22-year-old fourth-year cadet to iron his clothes.

He said police investigation revealed that the senior then suddenly took the iron from the victim’s hands and pressed it against the latter’s chest.

Razarudin said the investigation is being carried out under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.

During a meeting with UPNM students last weekend, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said bullying had become a “sickening” culture in the country, being tolerated and at times defended.
