PETALING JAYA: Three men, including a political activist, have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly soliciting a RM150,000 bribe from a celebrity preacher.
The Alor Setar magistrates’ court granted the MACC’s application for a four-day remand order for the trio, Berita Harian reported.
The men, in their 30s and 50s, allegedly solicited the bribe from the preacher to help settle a money laundering case being investigated by police.
Although they had asked for RM150,000, they are said to have received only RM20,000.
The suspects are believed to have been arrested between noon and 5pm yesterday in an operation around Bedong, Sungai Petani and at the Kedah MACC office.
Kedah MACC director Ahmad Nizam Ismail confirmed the matter, according to the report.
