PAC chairman Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the duo will be called to testify about the Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional governments’ efforts to recover 1MDB assets from 2018 to 2021.
She said the committee will also summon former Treasury secretary-general Asri Hamidon and the law firm of Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership, as they had also been on the 1MDB special task force previously.
“The proceedings are expected to commence in the third week of this month,” she said in a statement.
The PAC launched its inquiry after the Auditor-General’s Report 3/2023 raised issues concerning 1MDB’s financial commitments.
The report revealed that the government channelled RM39.74 billion in grants to 1MDB between 2019 and 2023, covering principal repayments and bond interest, while an additional RM9.46 billion was required.
It also recommended the recovery of assets related to 1MDB and SRC International Sdn Bhd from domestic and foreign sources.
Mas Ermieyati said the PAC has so far heard from finance ministry secretary-general Johan Mahmood Merican and the head of the government’s 1MDB task force, Johari Ghani.
“During the two-hour proceedings, the PAC was informed about the government’s efforts to recover 1MDB assets and the financing of RM9.456 billion in 1MDB’s debts,” she said.
The committee’s proceedings involving the Inland Revenue Board’s management of accounts receivable, which was also flagged in the report, will also resume in the third week of November.
Separately, Mas Ermieyati said the PAC will publish its report on the National Professors Council tomorrow.
The council was cast into the spotlight after the 2024 A-G’s report revealed that some RM373,516 of its funds had been misused, leading to calls for its dissolution.
These calls gained more traction in September after its president, Raduan Che Rose, was slapped with seven charges of criminal breach of trust involving RM271,000 of the council’s funds. He claimed trial.
