PETALING JAYA:
A Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officer was charged in the Shah Alam sessions court today with misappropriating RM613,000 worth of assets previously seized by the agency.

MACC assistant commissioner Azizun Mohamad claimed trial after the charge was read before judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud.

Azizun is accused of misappropriating the assets confiscated during an operation that uncovered diesel vehicle registration fraud involving the road transport department’s (JPJ) MySikap system in 2019.

The accused allegedly committed the offence between June 1, 2020 and Feb 9 this year in Cyberjaya.

He was charged under Section 403 of the Penal Code with dishonest misappropriation of property, which carries a maximum sentence of five years’ imprisonment, whipping and a fine upon conviction.

The judge allowed Azizun to post bail at RM30,000 and ordered him to surrender his passport and report to the MACC headquarters every month.
