PETALING JAYA:
The Johor Bahru sessions court has postponed its decision on the case of a trader accused of putting his third wife, Jahidah Nordin@Sylvester, into a coma three years ago due to the accused’s absence from court today.

Judge Fatimah Zahari postponed the decision to Dec 9 after lawyer Salleh Togimin, representing Rosmaini Abd Raof, 41, said the accused was admitted to Pendang Hospital in Kedah yesterday due to shortness of breath.

“I was informed by the accused’s wife that he suffered shortness of breath while playing football yesterday and fell unconscious.

“I did not speak directly with the accused but was only informed of this by the wife,” he said, handing over Rosmaini’s hospital admission letter as well as the ward details to the court.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Siti Fatimah Mamu. Aside from Salleh, Rosmaini was also represented by Kamal Hisham Jaafar and Aina Kamila Zalizam.

Watching brief lawyers Hazeem Norizan and Syufri A Samad, representing Jahidah’s family, were also present at the proceedings.

On June 17, 2021, Rosmaini pleaded not guilty to severely injuring Jahidah. On Jan 17, 2022, the Johor Bahru sessions court ordered him to enter his defence.

According to the charge sheet, he is accused of having injured Jahidah by hitting her head, face and hands and stomping on her back.

He allegedly committed the offence at an apartment on Jalan Tani, Kampung Aman, Larkin, at around 6am on May 4, 2021.

Jahidah’s case shocked the nation as she had ended up in a coma while she was pregnant. Her baby, Eshan Nufail, was safely delivered via a Caesarean surgery on Nov 30, 2021.

On March 15, 2023, the Seremban lower shariah court allowed an application for divorce by Jahidah’s family, which was filed the month before.
