PETALING JAYA:
Police have opened an investigation into allegations that a cadet at the National Defence University (UPNM) in Sungai Besi was bullied by a senior who pressed a hot iron against his chest, says Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain.

Razarudin said the investigation is being carried out under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, Harian Metro reported.

He said the incident is alleged to have taken place at 11.45pm on Oct 22 at the UPNM hostel.

According to him, in the report lodged by the 20-year-old victim at 8.23pm yesterday, the cadet said he had been asked to iron clothes.

“A fourth-year cadet senior had asked the victim to iron his work clothes.

“Suddenly, the 22-year-old senior took the iron held by the complainant and pressed it against his right chest once,” he said.

The armed forces were also reported to have said they were investigating the case, which came to light after an instructor on duty conducted a routine inspection and noticed signs of injury on the cadet’s body.

“A detailed investigation will be carried out and there will be no cover-up or compromise,” the forces said in a statement on Wednesday night.

“Stern disciplinary measures as well as legal action will be taken against any party found guilty.”
