PETALING JAYA:
The certificate of approval for Putrajaya-based flying academy Giaan Flying Academy Sdn Bhd will not be renewed when it expires tomorrow, says the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

CAAM CEO Norazman Mahmud said the academy had failed to effectively address issues raised in several audits carried out by the aviation regulator pursuant to the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016.

He said Giaan is no longer certified to operate as an approved training organisation (ATO) and is also prohibited from conducting any training course listed under the approval certificate’s specifications.

“The decision comes following Giaan’s failure to address the findings from the renewal audit conducted by CAAM last December regarding ATO compliance and safety issues.

“The academy was temporarily suspended for 90 days from Dec 29 last year. After the suspension, it was given the opportunity to address the audit findings conditionally for six months from March 29 this year,” he said in a statement.

However, Norazman said a certificate renewal audit conducted in July found Giaan had still failed to rectify all the issues, further compromising the academy’s compliance with civil aviation directives.

According to sources, Giaan currently has four students and an instructor, and two single-engine Piper Warrior PA28 aircraft.

When contacted, a spokesman for Giaan said a statement would be issued soon and that the company would work towards resolving the issue.
