SHAH ALAM:
A Malaysia Airlines senior executive in facilities management has been charged with accepting a RM1,000 bribe to fast-track a deal for a company.

Razif Hassan, 35, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him in the sessions court here before judge Nasir Nordin today.

According to the charge sheet, Razif accepted the bribe from QBase Engineering Sdn Bhd’s owner, Zahrul Nizam Zakaria, to fast-track a business deal between the company and Malaysia Airlines Group.

Malaysia Airlines Berhad is a subsidiary of Malaysia Aviation Group.

The RM1,000 bribe was allegedly deposited via online transaction into his Maybank Islamic account on Nov 9, 2023.

The charge was framed under Section 25(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000, or up to 10 years in prison, or both, upon conviction.

MACC prosecuting officer Yasri Yahya asked the court to fix bail at RM2,000, but Razif’s lawyer, Shahidah Muslimah Roslan, sought for a reduced amount of RM1,000.

She said her client only earned RM3,200 a month and had fully cooperated with MACC during its investigation.

The judge allowed Razif to post bail at RM1,000 but ordered him to surrender his passport and report to the nearest MACC office every month until the case is disposed of.

He then fixed Nov 29 for case mention.
