He said this is in line with Malaysia’s commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions as early as 2050 through the National Energy Transition Roadmap, Bernama reported.
Fadillah said so far, Sime Darby Property Bhd has taken the initiative to implement a pilot rooftop solar project in its latest property development.
Fadillah, who is also the energy transition and water transformation minister, said the project’s success would serve as a basis for nationwide implementation.
“Installing rooftop solar panels supplies energy back to the national grid,” he said during the oral question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to a supplementary question from Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (PN-Kubang Kerian) regarding initiatives to encourage rooftop solar panel installations in housing projects.
Meanwhile, Fadillah said the government is continuing the e-Rebate programme with an allocation of RM70 million under the 2025 budget to raise awareness about energy efficiency and to support low-income groups.
He said those purchasing approved appliances rated five and four stars, which are considered energy-efficient electrical equipment, will be eligible for the rebate.
Each householder will get a rebate of RM200 for a refrigerator and RM200 for an air-conditioner under this programme.
Fadillah was responding to a supplementary question from Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) on efforts to promote the use of energy-efficient electrical appliances.
