SEPANG:
DHL Express is increasing its investment in Malaysia with the launch of its new RM300 million Kuala Lumpur Gateway facility, marking its largest local investment to date.

The move is part of its strategy to enhance connectivity across Asia.

Previously, the company invested RM13 million to set up its Perai service centre in the Batu Kawan Industrial Park, Penang, and RM11 million in the Malaysia Southern Gateway in Johor.

DHL Express Malaysia and Brunei managing director Julian Neo said the new KL Gateway facility will support Malaysia’s booming import and export activities, in line with the increase in international trade.

“This new facility is three times larger and can handle four times the shipments compared to the previous premises.”

The launch was attended by transport minister Loke Siew Fook, DHL Express Asia Pacific CEO Ken Lee and Raya Airways Group managing director Najib Ishak.

Neo said the new facility, located at KLIA’s Terminal 1 air cargo section, is their first Gateway facility in Southeast Asia with a fully automated sorting system.

“This facility can process up to 10,000 shipments per hour, speeding up transit and delivery times compared to the previous capacity of 2,400 shipments.

“Kuala Lumpur and Selangor collectively contributed RM3.3 billion in export value and RM7 billion in import value as of August for this year.”

In 2023, Malaysia jumped 15 positions to 26th place in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index, ranking among the best in Asean.
