The pair, which has been part of the landscape here since the 1970s, is fondly remembered by many who have lived or worked in the area over the past 50 years.
In a Facebook post bidding farewell to the pair today, Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung said Daisy and Maya were commissioned in 1969 by Dutch Lady to an Australian artist named Betty Chen.
The statues were then installed outside Dutch Lady Petaling Jaya at Jalan 13/6 in April 1970, together with a mini windmill.
DLMI’s managing director Ramjeet Kaur Virik was quoted by The Rakyat Post as saying that since Daisy and Maya have become synonymous with the original factory, the company decided to take the statues to their new home.
