
Kuantan police chief Wan Zahari Wan Busu said retired firefighter Fadli Abidin, 42, who was driving a multi-purpose vehicle, and his wife, Rohafiza Taha, 50, a teacher, were confirmed dead at the scene.
He said the accident occurred at about 2am when the family of three were on their way from Gambang to Kemaman.
“The MPV suddenly lost control and collided with the excavator parked on the road shoulder. The husband and wife died at the scene.
“Their son, Osman Wafi Fadli, a student, was taken to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital,” he said in a statement. The boy suffered serious injuries to his face and head and has yet to regain consciousness.
Meanwhile, the remains of four members of a family, who lost their lives in a collision between their car and a lorry at Km86 of the Gua Musang-Lojing road yesterday were laid to rest this morning in Kuala Berang, Terengganu.
Junaizi Jusoh, 48, was buried alongside his son, Fakrul Danish, 20, in a single grave, while Junaizi’s wife, Shazwani Ismail, 39, was interred with her sister, Farhana, 35, in another grave.
The car was one of three containing family members going for a holiday in the Cameron Highlands. The lorry driver, G Mageswara, 53, was also killed.
Gua Musang police chief Sik Choon Foo said the lorry, travelling from Cameron Highlands towards Lojing, was believed to have lost control and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with the car, which then plunged into a ravine. The lorry overturned in the opposite lane.
