PETALING JAYA:
Penang Umno’s youth wing has slammed DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng over a jab the Bagan MP made at Umno ministers in the Dewan Rakyat recently.

Lim, in debating the 2025 budget on Tuesday, thanked government ministers for helping Penang and his constituency but remarked that “Umno ministers were a little lacking”.

Penang Umno Youth chief Hilmi Elias claimed that Lim had never watched his words and was infamous in the state for being tactless.

“He talks more than he works. He’s not careful about the sensitivities of his rivals or even his allies,” he told FMT.

“Lim needs to remember, there aren’t any Cabinet ministers from Penang Umno.

“What I want to ask Lim in return is this: what has he done to help Umno leaders in Penang?”

Hilmi urged Lim to be more tactful and sensitive towards his allies in the unity government.

He also said Lim should learn from current chief minister Chow Kon Yeow how he managed the issue of floods, describing it as being more systematic compared with when Lim was in the top post.

“If we were to compare with Lim’s performance as chief minister then, it’s far better now.

“He needs to see how Chow manages floods systematically, particularly in coordinating flood aid among the unity government parties.”

Yesterday, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari also took a sarcastic dig at Lim over his remarks, saying he pitied his friends from Umno.

Fadhli also said the former Penang chief minister should not have made such a statement openly, especially in the Dewan Rakyat.

However, Hilmi dismissed Fadhli’s “concern” and told the Pasir Mas MP not to bother about matters unrelated to PAS.

“Don’t try to take advantage of the situation, as there are many bigger issues that we don’t see PAS speaking up on. When it comes to Umno’s matters, we’ll handle them on our own.”
