PETALING JAYA:
No Malaysians were reported to have been affected by yesterday’s terror attack on a Turkish defence firm which killed five people and injured 22 others, says Wisma Putra.

The foreign ministry said it strongly condemned the attack on the headquarters of aerospace and defence company Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) near the capital Ankara.

“Malaysia expresses its deepest condolences and sympathies to the Turkish government and the families of those who have lost their lives, and wishes those injured a speedy recovery,” it said in a statement.

“All Malaysians in Turkey are advised to remain calm, stay vigilant and follow the latest updates and guidance provided by the local authorities.”

Latest wire reports said Turkey launched strikes on Kurdish militants in Iraq and Syria after blaming them for the attack.

The Turkish government said the attack was “very likely” carried out by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the “despicable” terror attack targeted the country’s “survival, peace and defence initiatives”.

Wisma Putra said the Malaysian embassy in Ankara is monitoring developments.

It said Malaysians in Turkey may contact the embassy at +(90) 312 44635 47/48 during office hours or +(90) 507 8128406 after office hours.

They may also reach the Malaysian consulate-general in Istanbul at +(90) 212 98910 01/09 during office hours or +(90) 531 7160551 after office hours.

Inquiries may also be emailed to [email protected] for the embassy in Ankara or [email protected] for the consulate-general in Istanbul.
