KUALA LUMPUR:
The two-fold increase in My50 monthly travel pass users over the last five years proves that the government’s plans to boost public transport are on the right track, says transport minister Loke Siew Fook.

Loke told reporters there has been a significant increase in My50 pass holders from 98,000 subscribers when the initiative was first launched in 2019 to around 220,000 subscribers currently.

My50 is a travel pass which offers unlimited rides on LRT, MRT, Monorail, BRT, Rapid KL bus and MRT feeder bus services in the Klang Valley for RM50 a month.

“The number has doubled in just five years. This is a considerable improvement, and we are confident that these numbers will continue to rise,” he told reporters at the Pasar Seni LRT station here today.

“We welcome more people to use My50 as this shows that the initiatives implemented by the government have not only encouraged more people to use public transport, but have also helped reduce their cost of living due to lower daily transport costs.

“At RM50 a month, this means they spend less than RM2 a day commuting from home to work, which is cheaper than driving – or even riding a motorcycle.”

He was optimistic that the introduction of the LRT3 line, expected to be operational in the third quarter of next year, will further increase demand for the My50 passes.

The RM16 billion LRT3 line will connect two million people between Bandar Utama and Klang. A total of 20 stations will initially be opened along the 37km route.

Integration with Touch ‘n Go e-wallet

Loke said Prasarana has been instructed to integrate My50 with the Touch ‘n Go e-wallet service. Currently, My50 pass holders have to renew their passes at LRT station counters each month.

He said allowing users to renew their passes digitally might encourage more people to take advantage of the My50 pass and boost public transport.

“This integration with Touch ‘n Go will be implemented in the coming months, and we hope that by next year, we can further ease the process for users,” he said.

“I want to reduce congestion at these counters and make it easier for users so they don’t have to queue up every month to renew their passes.”

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim allocated RM216 million for the My50 initiative when he tabled the 2025 budget last Friday.
