KUALA LUMPUR:
A migrant worker died after falling from a height of 18m from the roof of a building under construction at Kepala Batas, Penang, on Monday morning.

The state occupational safety and health department said the victim was employed by a subcontractor appointed to carry out the construction of formwork at the site.

“The victim fell while he was building the formwork and was found dead on the ground floor,” it said in a statement.

A stop-work notice has been issued until the department’s investigation into the incident is completed. The employer has also been ordered to carry out an internal investigation to identify the cause of the incident and carry out improvements on the site.

The incident occurred at about 9.40am, just an hour after another foreign worker died at a construction site in Bayan Lepas, after falling from the eighth floor of a building while leaving a gondola to enter the site.
