PETALING JAYA:
A Singaporean man wanted for drug consumption and trafficking was arrested in Malaysia and deported to the republic on Sunday after seven years on the run.

Media reports said the man, aged 37, was linked to several cases of drug trafficking and drug-related offences committed over a 10-year period between 2014 and 2024.

He was first arrested and charged with three counts of drug trafficking and one count of drug consumption on April 3, 2014 and released on bail.

A warrant of arrest was issued against him after he failed to attend court on June 12, 2017, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said in a statement yesterday.

It said the suspect was eventually arrested in Malaysia on Oct 1 by the country’s narcotics crime investigation department.

He was deported to Singapore on Sunday and arrested by the CNB on the same day and brought to court to face his original 2014 drug charges.

CNA reported the bureau as saying that they are also pursuing investigations into the other cases of drug trafficking.

CNB’s acting director, Leon Chan, expressed his appreciation to the Malaysian authorities on behalf of the bureau.

“Drug traffickers thinking to evade our law by hiding overseas will find that there is no safe haven,” he was quoted as saying.
