Come up with a shadow budget, PN told

Pakatan Harapan's Sim Tze Tzin says it is important for the opposition to unveil an alternative budget.

Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin urged senior Perikatan Nasional MPs to debate significant issues in the Dewan Rakyat.
KUALA LUMPUR:
A backbencher has urged the opposition to play the role of check and balance and come up with a shadow budget.

Sim Tze Tzin (PH-Bayan Baru) said Perikatan Nasional should reveal its version of the national budget, adding that it was an important practice.

He said Pakatan Harapan had consistently unveiled an alternative budget between 2010 and 2017, when it was the opposition.

“The unity government has tabled the national budget thrice but I have yet to see a shadow budget by the opposition.

“Is the opposition leader playing his role,” he asked, referring to Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut).

Sim said this when debating the Supply Bill 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat this evening.

On Friday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim tabled a budget of RM421 billion, the first time allocations had exceeded RM400 billion.

The sum also represented a RM27.2 billion increase compared to the RM393.8 billion that was allocated for 2024.

Sim also pleaded with opposition MPs, especially those who had served several terms, to display some maturity when debating in the lower house.

“The ‘senior’ MPs should debate weighty issues instead of questioning if the prime minister receives a salary, trivial matters which is something that cybertroopers can take on.”

The opposition should rectify this “flaw” to ensure the public benefits from proper checks and balances.
