PETALING JAYA:
Today’s Dewan Rakyat sitting came to an early end this evening after the number of MPs present in the house did not meet the required quorum.

Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PN-Pengkalan Chepa) interrupted the sitting to cite Standing Order 13(1), which states that a quorum of at least 26 MPs, excluding the speaker, is necessary for the Dewan Rakyat to convene.

“There is only one minister (Mohamad Sabu) here, who I think should be the prime minister.

“There are three deputy ministers, all of them should be qualified to be ministers during such an important debate,” he said.

RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) interjected, saying the lack of quorum was due to some MPs performing their Maghrib prayers.

Marzuk, however, said there was no one in the prayer room in Parliament. “I went to the surau earlier and no one was there.”

Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar), who was standing in to chair the proceedings, conducted a headcount before instructing the bell to be rung to summon MPs back into the chamber.

“There are 19 members in the chamber now, and we have one more MP (participating in the debate on the Supply Bill 2025). With that, today’s sitting is adjourned until 10am tomorrow,” said Shahar.
