Man, 71, dies while hiking on Bukit Kledang

The fire and rescue department says Goon Swee Long experienced fatigue and shortness of breath before he fainted at an altitude of 800m above sea level.

An elderly man died after experiencing breathing difficulties while hiking on Bukit Kledang near here today.

Perak fire and rescue department assistant director (operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said Goon Swee Long, 71, experienced fatigue and shortness of breath before he fainted near the road leading to the RTM station transmitter tower on the hill, at an altitude of 800m above sea level.

In a statement, he said a report on the incident was received at about 4.25pm and firemen arrived at the scene nine minutes later.

“The firemen provided initial treatment but a medical officer later confirmed that the victim had died,” he said.
