3 states record increase in flood evacuees but overall number drops

The flood situation has eased in Pahang and Perak but Selangor, Kedah and Perlis see more people placed in relief centres.

The total number of people placed at 15 relief centres in five states stood at 1,480 as of 9am today  compared with 2,570 last night.

Pahang and Perak recorded a drop in the number of evacuees but there has been an increase in Selangor, Kedah and Perlis, Bernama reported.

According to the disaster info portal of the social welfare department (JKM), the number of flood victims in Pahang dropped from 363 last night to 187, all sheltering at one relief centre in Temerloh.

In Perak, 553 evacuees are still housed at eight relief centres in Kerian, Hilir Perak and Perak Tengah compared with 1,506 last night.

In Kedah, the number of flood victims rose to 109, who are housed at the state’s only relief centre, compared with 80 last night.

The number of flood victims in Selangor also increased from 152 last night to 160, all of whom are housed at three relief centres, while Perlis recorded a slight increase from 469 to 471, who have been placed at two relief centres.

The Public Info Banjir website stated that the water levels of eight rivers have exceeded the danger level, with four in Sarawak, three in Selangor and one in Melaka.
