PETALING JAYA:
Pearly Tan-M Thinaah’s hopes at the 2024 Denmark Open badminton championship came to an end last night after they lost in their quarter-final match to Japan’s Kie Nakanishi-Rin Iwanaga.

The Malaysian women’s doubles pair lost 20-22, 19-21 to the same Japanese pair who they had defeated in the Arctic Open semi-final last week.

The first game saw both pairs having a point-for-point exchange and the Japanese leading 11-10 at the break. The same tight game continued with Kie-Rin holding on to their narrow lead and going on to win 22-20.

In the second game, the Japanese pair stamped their authority, taking an early lead and having a six-point advantage at 8-2.

However, Pearly-Thinaah closed the gap to go into the break just one point behind.

The Japanese pair continued their dominance after the break and went on to take the game and match in 57 minutes.

The win gave Kie-Rin their second win in six meetings so far against the Malaysian pair.

With Pearly-Thinaah’s exit, no Malaysians are left in the Denmark Open.
