PETALING JAYA:
The assault case involving a member of the Pahang royal family has not been closed, says state police chief Yahaya Othman.

Yahaya said police had submitted their investigation paper on the case to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) last month and were waiting for a reply.

“The case is not closed. The investigation paper is being looked through by the DPP. We will wait for new developments (from the DPP),” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

Yahaya also promised that there would be no cover-ups to protect any individual.

Last month, Malaysiakini reported that road construction worker Alias Awang was allegedly attacked by a group of people, including a Pahang royal family member, at a horse stable in Kuantan three months ago.

Alias was allegedly stabbed with a sharp weapon and shot at in the incident.

The Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, had urged the police to ensure a fair investigation into the allegations, maintaining that not even members of the royal family were above the law.

In a social media post yesterday, Tengku Hassanal called for justice to be served swiftly for the alleged victim.
