PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said the announcement of RM1.8 billion to obtain three vessels came at a critical time in patrolling borders.

MMEA director-general Rosli Abdullah said these vessels would prove essential to protect the South China Sea.

Admitting that they were facing certain constraints in carrying out the work, he was happy the government had taken note of the important role MMEA has been playing in ensuring national security.

“MMEA is currently facing limitations in its capacity to secure the country’s maritime borders,” he said in a statement today.

He also expressed gratitude to the government for this timely allocation.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling the 2025 budget, announced the acquisition of a multi-purpose mission ship, two new generation patrol vessels and the upgrade of six vessels under Phase 2 of the ship life extension programme.
