PETALING JAYA:
Defending champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik were knocked out of the 2024 Denmark Open when they lost to unseeded Chinese pair Chen Bo Yang-Liu Yi 20-22, 15-21 in the quarter-final of the 2024 Denmark Open badminton championship.

Their defeat in 37 minutes by the Chinese pair, ranked No 21 in the world, was their first loss after three international meetings.

The fourth-seeded Malaysian pair, bronze medallists at the Paris Olympics, are yet to win any title this year.

They had a sluggish start in the first game trailing all the way with Chen-Liu leading 11-8 at the break. However, Aaron-Wooi Yik made a comeback to take a 20-18 lead but made some huge errors to lose 20-22.

Aaron-Wooi Yik continued with their lacklustre performance in the second game with the Chinese pair having an easy time winning it 21-15.

Chen-Liu will meet compatriots and world No 1 Liang Wei Keng-Wang Cheng who defeated Thailand’s Kittinupong Kedren-Dechapol Puavaranukroh 21-15, 18-21, 21-12 in another quarter-final.
