PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Kuala Lumpur has detained an enforcement officer suspected of accepting a RM50,000 bribe from an agent.

The payment was allegedly made to avoid enforcement action against an entertainment centre suspected of hiring foreign workers without valid permits.

According to an MACC source, the male suspect, in his 40s, was arrested at around midnight when he was at the anti-graft agency’s Kuala Lumpur office to give a statement.

“The suspect accepted the RM50,000 in cash from the agent,” the source said.

Kuala Lumpur MACC director Fauzi Husin confirmed the arrest, saying the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

He also said the suspect was released on MACC bail after his statement was recorded.
