Medical officer loses RM113,000 in fake online job scam

He had taken part in a scheme that required him to conduct a survey on energy efficiency through a provided link, with a promise of a 20% commission.

The victim realised he had been scammed when he was asked to make further payments to withdraw RM130,000 in ‘commissions’ that he had earned.
MUAR:
A medical officer lost RM113,086 in savings after being deceived by a non-existent online part-time job offer.

Muar police chief Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the 27-year-old man met an individual through an app and was offered a part-time job.

He said the victim was asked to conduct a survey on energy efficiency through a provided link, with a promise of a 20% commission.

“Drawn by the attractive returns, the victim registered as an agent on a website.

“However, to access the survey link, he was asked to make 14 transactions to five different accounts, amounting to RM113,086.40.

“Based on what was displayed on the website, the victim was shown to have made a profit of RM130,000.

“However, when he wanted to withdraw the profit, he was asked to make additional payments. This made the victim realise he had been scammed,” Raiz said today.

The victim lodged a police report yesterday.

Raiz advised the public to remain vigilant and exercise caution when dealing with people online.
