Pantai Jerejak assemblyman Fahmi Zainol said the broken pipe caused water to flow beneath the road, causing the ground to erode and the sinkhole to form.
“IWK will carry out maintenance work to fix the sinkhole. The work is expected to take one week,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Fahmi, who is also a state executive councillor, said road users were advised to use alternative routes during this period.
“For road users, please use alternative routes as the road between Taman Sri Nibong and Krystal Point will be temporarily closed for one week,” he said.
Earlier today, images of a school bus with one of its tyres trapped in a sinkhole went viral on social media.
