PETALING JAYA: The Selangor fire and rescue department rescued 21 children from a kindergarten on Jalan Hulu Kelang, Ampang, after floodwaters inundated the premises.
The department said four houses nearby were also affected by the floods, following heavy rain this morning.
“The rescue team told the residents to take shelter at a hall and evacuated the 21 children to a safe area,” it said, adding that the team responded to a distress call at about 10.30am.
Earlier, a video of the children standing on tables in a flooded classroom made the rounds on social media, showing some of them crying as the water level rose.
The firefighters said the waters were beginning to recede at the time of the rescue.
The children were reunited with their parents later in the morning.
