PETALING JAYA: Two assistant finance officers from the Raub social welfare department (JKM) were sentenced to seven days in prison and fined RM10,000 each after pleading guilty to embezzling RM78,000 in aid.
Sinar Harian reported that Kuantan sessions court judge Sazlina Safie also ordered Tengku Ashraf Shah Tengku Yahya and Zuriani Abdul Rahim @ Abdul Rahman, both aged 41, to serve an additional two months in prison if they failed to pay the fine.
They were charged with submitting false claims for aid to 20 recipients from June 2020 to February 2021 to the Raub JKM branch head.
However, the intended recipients did not receive the aid.
They were both charged under Section 417 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
