She told the Dewan Rakyat today that the report containing the findings is currently in the final review stage by various agencies.
“The outcome of the full investigation into the sinkhole incident at Jalan Masjid India and surrounding areas is in its final review by various agencies, coordinated by the incident commander, the Dang Wangi police chief, and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL),” she said during the question and answer time.
Zaliha added that the technical report assessing the geological and sub-surface structure of risk areas, including Kuala Lumpur’s central business district, will also be submitted to the Cabinet.
“This study helps identify other potential sinkhole risk areas. Both reports will first be presented to the Cabinet,” she said.
Zaliha was responding to a supplementary question from P Prabakaran (PH-Batu), who inquired about the government’s readiness to disclose the outcome of the full investigation.
She also reiterated that Jalan Masjid India is confirmed to be safe for all types of activities after considering the views of various experts and authorities.
The sinkhole, which appeared on Jalan Masjid India on Aug 23, had swallowed up a 48-year-old Indian tourist, Vijayaletchumy, who was walking down the street outside the Malayan Mansion when the incident happened.
The search operation for her was called off on the ninth day due to safety concerns for both the search team and the surrounding areas after another sinkhole was discovered near the original site.
Subsequently, the natural resources and environmental sustainability ministry identified human activity and soil erosion as contributing factors to the sinkhole’s formation.
