Pearly-Thinaah fall to Chinese pair at Arctic Open

The Malaysians were seeking their second title this year after capturing the Hong Kong Open title last month.

National women’s shuttlers Pearly Tan-M Thinaah were unable to secure their second title of the year, losing to a Chinese pair in the women’s doubles final of the 2024 Arctic Open badminton tournament tonight.

They lost to world No 2 Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning of China 12-21, 17-21 at the Energia Areena in Vantaa, Finland.

Pearly-Thinaah, ranked world No 7, reached the final after defeating world No 6 Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi of Japan 21-19, 19-21, 26-24 in last night’s semi-final.

Tonight’s match was Pearly-Thinaah’s third final this year after capturing the Hong Kong Open title and finishing runners-up in the Korea Open last month.

Earlier tonight, independent professional shuttlers Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani continued their winning streak when they won the men’s doubles title in a three-game thriller.
