PETALING JAYA:
Malaysian mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai failed to qualify for the final of the 2024 Arctic Open mixed doubles in Finland when they were defeated by China’s world No 3 pair Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin in the semi-final today.

The Malaysian married couple, ranked world No 10, went down tamely 14-21, 8-21 in 30 minutes, outclassed by the devastating form of the Chinese pair.

With today’s victory, Zhen Beng-Ya Xin have beaten Soon Huat-Shevon six times in their seven meetings so far.

It was a close battle in the first game with the pairs allowing each other to lead by only one point, with the Chinese pair having the advantage at 11-10 during the break. It was a different story after the breather when the Chinese pair raced ahead to clinch the game 21-14 in 16 minutes.

The second game was a real washout with the Malaysians making error after error in a one-sided match. The Chinese pair cruised to a 21-8 victory in just 14 minutes.

They will meet the winners of the other all-Chinese semi-final between Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping and Cheng Xin-Zhang Chi.
