Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi said PAS has accepted and used many other products of colonisation, especially in the nation’s political and administrative systems.
“The Federal Constitution is a product of colonisation, but has not stopped shariah and Islam from growing rapidly.
“Islam remains the federal religion. Why politicise holidays on Sundays? It doesn’t affect one’s faith.
“Offices do not have to be closed during Ramadan either. What’s the use of holidays anyway if you sleep in and miss Friday prayers?
“Whatever the regulations are, Islamic matters remain protected. Don’t twist the issue,” he said in a post on Facebook.
Yesterday, Johor PAS said the switch of rest days announced recently by the Regent of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim is a product of colonisation, saying its Ruler should prioritise Fridays.
Tunku Ismail then explained that the switch reflected the desire of Johoreans to spend more time with their families and said those dissatisfied with it were welcome to move to states that still have Friday and Saturday as weekends.
Johor changed its weekend to Friday and Saturday in 2014 as a mark of respect for Friday’s importance to Muslims.
